In mid-March, solar photovoltaic generation showed varied performance across key European markets. Notably, both France and Germany reported a significant rebound, with solar output increasing by 35% each, reversing the downward trend from the previous week. Meanwhile, Italy and Spain also maintained positive momentum, recording increases of 6.1% and 6.3%, respectively. Conversely, Portugal faced challenges as its solar generation plummeted by 26%.
The week of March 16 marked remarkable achievements in solar energy production for Germany and France, both setting new benchmarks for the month of March. On March 19, Germany reached its second-highest daily solar output for March at 341 GWh. The following day, France broke records with an all-time high daily production of 141 GWh.
AleaSoft Energy Forecasting anticipates further developments in solar generation for the week commencing March 23. Projections suggest that Italy and Spain will continue to see increases in solar output; however, Germany may experience a downturn.
Turning to wind energy, production trends shifted positively in the Iberian Peninsula and Italian markets during the third week of March after prior declines. Italy exhibited remarkable growth with an increase of 113%, while Spain saw a more modest rise of 6.2%. Portugal also benefited from a wind generation boost of 14%. In contrast, Germany and France experienced a reversal from their previous gains; Germany recorded a substantial decrease in wind production at 27%, while France’s output fell by 14%.
Looking ahead to the final week of March, forecasts indicate that wind generation is expected to rise across the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, and Germany. However, projections for France suggest a decline in wind energy production during this period.
