Slovenia’s energy landscape experienced a slight uptick in electricity generation for December 2025, with net production reaching 1,280 GWh, marking a 1% increase year-on-year. However, this figure represents a 3% decrease from the previous month of November 2025, indicating a complex interplay of various energy sources and consumption patterns.
The generation mix revealed notable shifts during December. Production from thermal power plants rose by 3% compared to December 2024, while output from hydropower facilities fell by 4%. The performance of the Krško nuclear power plant remained stable, and there was a significant increase of 15% in generation from both winds and solar power plants, highlighting the growing role of renewables in Slovenia’s energy portfolio.
On the demand side, electricity imports totaled 819 GWh, reflecting a substantial drop of 14% compared to December 2024. Exports mirrored this trend, also declining by 14%, totaling 840 GWh. Household electricity consumption surged to 406 GWh, which is an increase of 29% from November. In contrast, commercial consumption experienced a downturn, decreasing by 16%, with total figures reaching 552 GWh.
The overall supply dynamics for energy commodities showed mixed results in December. While there was an increase in supplies for certain resources such as lignite and brown coal, which rose by 27%, and natural gas, which increased by 7%, other categories saw significant declines. Supplies of various petroleum products dropped sharply—40% for other petroleum products, followed by decreases of 24%, 16%, and 15%
(for hard coal, coke, and heating oil respectively). Additionally, supplies of both LPG and petrol decreased by 8% and 2%. Year-on-year comparisons illustrate an overall reduction in the availability of energy commodities; notably, LPG supply fell by 23%, while lignite and brown coal supplies declined by 11%.
This mixed performance across different sectors underscores the evolving landscape of Slovenia’s energy market as it adapts to changing consumption patterns and fluctuating resource availability. The data reflects ongoing challenges as well as opportunities within the country’s efforts to balance traditional energy sources with renewable options.
