Gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina reached 988 GWh in April 2026, according to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). This compares with 1,205 GWh in the same month last year. The figures cover overall generation in the country for the period.
Generation mix and hydropower output
Hydropower plants accounted for 48.8% of total electricity generation in April 2026. Thermal power plants made up 38.5%, while solar and wind contributed 12.7%. Net hydropower production totaled 477 GWh, which was 7.7% higher year-on-year.
Thermal power output declined to 338 GWh, down 40.5% compared with April 2025. Electricity generation from renewables based on wind and solar increased to 126 GWh. The rise amounted to 18.9% year-on-year.
Electricity trade flows
Electricity imports increased by 11.5% to 455 GWh in April 2026, compared with 408 GWh a year earlier. Exports fell by 14.1% to 575 GWh, versus 669 GWh in April 2025. The trade figures reflect changes in cross-border electricity movements over the month.
Lignite and natural gas supply
Lignite production in Bosnia and Herzegovina totaled 440,000 tons in April 2026, down 28.1% year-on-year. Brown coal output decreased by 23.4% to 292,000 tons. These figures describe fuel production levels for the same reporting month.
Natural gas imports rose to 18.92 million cubic meters in April 2026, up from 17.43 million cubic meters. The increase was 8.5% compared with the same period last year.
