Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) reached 461 GWh in May 2026. That level was 10% lower than in May last year, when output totaled 512 GWh. The generation mix showed hydropower at 30.6%, thermal power at 53.8%, and wind farms contributing 15.6% of gross production.
Generation mix and net output
Net electricity production in the FBiH stood at 411 GWh in May 2026. Hydropower accounted for 121 GWh, thermal plants produced 219 GWh, and wind farms generated 71 GWh. The figures reflect the split between gross generation shares and net output volumes.
Electricity trade flows
Imports fell to 89 GWh in May 2026, compared with 142 GWh in the same month of the previous year. Exports also declined to 56 GWh, versus 117 GWh recorded in May 2025. These changes were reported alongside the lower gross generation total.
Fuel production and coke shutdown
Brow n coal production increased to 311,688 tons, representing a 4.9% year-on-year rise. Lignite output dropped to 100,369 tons, down 23.6% from 131,316 tons in May 2025. Coke production fell to zero in May 2026 following the permanent closure of the Lukavac coke plant .
