Sungrow battery equipment for first phase
Sungrow has secured a storage supply contract for Albania’s Project Blue, providing battery equipment for the project’s first phase. The development is designed as a solar and storage project with a target of 349 MW of photovoltaic capacity across two stages. The initial phase pairs 185 MW of solar with 130 MWh of battery storage.
The contract covers 26 PowerTitan 2.0 battery units and 13 MVS3460-LS transformer units. Financial terms were not disclosed in the announcement. The equipment agreement advances procurement for the first stage, while no commissioning date was provided.
Planned second stage expands solar and storage
A second phase is planned to add 164 MW of solar capacity and an 80 MW/180 MWh battery system. With both phases combined, Project Blue would reach 349 MW of photovoltaic capacity and 310 MWh of total battery storage. The announcement did not disclose financing terms for the project.
The project is being developed in southwestern Albania by Matrix Konstruksion and Blessed Investment Group. The developers describe Project Blue as the country’s largest privately developed solar plant. Storage is intended to enable shifting part of output away from solar generation hours.
Role of storage in electricity delivery
The developers said the battery system would provide greater control over delivery. They also indicated that commercial performance would depend on operating restrictions, battery efficiency, and the price difference between charging and discharging periods. Project Blue’s impact will depend on how effectively its batteries convert variable solar production into electricity available when buyers value it most.
