Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure said that in the first half of 2021, Slovenia covered 87 % of electricity consumption by domestic production, while electricity imports increased by 5 % compared to the same period last year.
Electricity generation in the first six months of 2021 reached 6,140 GWh (11 % more than in H1 2020), while electricity consumption stood at 7,089 GWh in the same period, which is a 4 % increase year-on-year. The first half of the year was marked by exceptional production of hydropower plants and increased electricity exports by 5 %.
In the first half of 2021, nuclear power plant Krsko amounted to 2,400 GWh, which is by 625 GWh or 21 % less than a year before, due to the scheduled overhaul of the plant this year. Slovenia is entitled to only 50 % of electricity produced by NPP Krsko, while the other half is delivered to Croatia
Hydropower plants produced a total of 2,679 GWh of electricity in this period, which is by a third more compared to last year. Thermal power plants produced 1,636 GWh of electricity, which is 11 % lower than in H1 2020.
Power plants connected to the distribution network produced a total of 626 GWh of electricity, which is a 14 % increase year-on-year. The share of hydropower plants was 37 %, natural gas 29 %, solar 21 %, biogas 7 % and biomass 5 %.
