In a significant move to enhance its renewable energy portfolio, Slovenia has secured approval for the construction of a floating solar power project at Družmirje Lake. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to transform the surrounding area into a recreational and landscape hub, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable development.
The national spatial plan, recently adopted by the government, facilitates this ambitious project, which boasts an estimated capacity of 140 MW. Once operational, it is projected to rank among the largest floating solar installations in the region, underscoring Slovenia’s proactive approach to renewable energy generation.
The approved plan outlines essential technical, environmental, safety, utility, and urban design requirements that will guide the project’s execution. The solar panels will be mounted directly on the lake’s surface, integrating necessary infrastructure to support efficient operation.
A key aspect of this project is its incorporation of energy storage systems and grid connection equipment, which are vital for enhancing reliability and stabilizing power output. This strategic development aims not only to boost Slovenia’s renewable energy capacity but also to optimize the use of existing water resources.
The spatial plan further includes documentation from a comprehensive public consultation process, where feedback from municipalities and local communities was gathered and analyzed.
