PRP Crni Vrh 1 is a transmission grid connection facility located about six kilometres from the Bor–Žagubica main road in eastern Serbia’s mountainous terrain. The high-voltage switching and connection installation is part of the Crni Vrh Wind Farm complex and provides the interface for delivering wind-generated electricity into Serbia’s national transmission system.
Built during 2024, PRP Crni Vrh 1 was developed to support the integration of renewable generation and to strengthen electricity infrastructure. In addition to serving as the grid connection for a single wind project, the facility is designed as a long-term strategic transmission node for future renewable developments across eastern Serbia.
Switching station configuration and commissioning timeline
The switching station includes twelve 110 kV bays, with ten fully equipped and operational. The installed arrangement comprises three 33/110 kV transformer bays, six transmission line bays, and one bus-coupler bay.
After testing, protection verification and commissioning activities, the installation was energized in November 2024. The energization completed one of Serbia’s advanced renewable energy grid connection projects.
Transmission line modifications feeding the new hub
Integration of PRP Crni Vrh 1 into the national transmission system required modifications to existing lines including DV 150, DV 177/2, and DV 122B. The lines were rerouted and introduced into the new switching station.
The rerouting works were carried out to increase network flexibility, improve operational security, and create additional transmission capacity for future renewable generation.
Substations linked and expansion via Jasikovo Wind Farm
PRP Crni Vrh 1 currently operates as a transmission hub connecting the Bor 1, Petrovac, Majdanpek 1, and Majdanpek 2 substations. The facility’s role supports electricity supply reliability across eastern Serbia while enabling the transmission system to handle growing volumes of variable renewable generation.
The planned connection of the Jasikovo Wind Farm, under construction, is expected to expand PRP Crni Vrh 1’s role. Once operational, it will serve as a common transmission interface for multiple utility-scale wind farms, with EPC Kodar constructing the project and OE Clarion.Engineer providing supervision .
Crni Vrh Wind Farm injection milestone in February 2026
A milestone was reached in late February 2026, when the first kilowatt-hours from the Crni Vrh Wind Farm were injected into Serbia’s transmission network through PRP Crni Vrh 1. This marked the start of commercial renewable electricity delivery from one of Serbia’s new wind energy projects.
The Crni Vrh Wind Farm has an installed capacity of 150 MW. It is developed by Crni Vrh Power d.o.o. (CVP), with Shanghai Fengling Renewables Co., Ltd. as principal investor .
EPC contract support and technical oversight by Clarion.Engineer
The project includes wind turbines, internal collector systems, substations, transmission infrastructure, and grid connection facilities intended to deliver clean electricity into the national power system. During development through construction, energization and commissioning, Clarion.Engineer acted as Owner’s Engineer (OE) providing independent technical representation across all project stages .
The Owner’s Engineer worked alongside an appointed Supervision Engineer to oversee technical due diligence, construction quality, compliance with Serbian regulations, engineering documentation, commissioning readiness, grid connection activities, contract administration and technical risk management. This oversight was intended to provide additional quality assurance while supporting progress toward full commercial operation under international engineering standards and lender expectations established in the EPC contract .
Role in voltage stability and future renewable capacity
beyond facilitating evacuation of renewable electricity, PRP Crni Vrh 1 is described as strengthening voltage stability and improving transmission system reliability. It also provides additional network capacity for future renewable energy investments across eastern Serbia.
The completion of PRP Crni Vrh 1 establishes a modern high-voltage switching platform supporting Serbia’s long-term energy transition. With additional renewable projects expected to connect over coming years, PRP Crni Vrh 1 is positioned to become one of Serbia’s strategically important transmission hubs for integrating clean energy .
