Romania: OMV Petrom acquires solar projects, aiming for 2.5 GW renewable capacity by 2030

OMV Petrom, the largest oil and gas company in southeastern Europe, has finalized the acquisition of several solar projects in Romania from Danish company Jantzen Renewables. Located in Teleorman County, these projects are now at the “ready-to-build” stage, with an installed capacity of approximately 710 MW.

Franck Neel, a member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board responsible for Gas and Power, stated that this acquisition represents a significant step in the company’s commitment to developing a renewable energy portfolio of around 2.5 GW by 2030, leveraging strategic partnerships.

The solar power plants will be situated in areas identified for their high solar yield potential. Over their estimated 25-year operational lifespan, these projects are expected to produce more than 20,000 GWh of electricity, which would meet approximately 70% of the annual household electricity consumption in Bucharest.

The projects have already received connection permits for the national electricity transmission network, and they are anticipated to be commissioned in the second half of 2026.
