Romanian infrastructure group E-Infra is preparing a 95.5 MW battery energy storage project in Satu Mare county through its subsidiary Nova Power & Gas, further strengthening its position in Romania’s rapidly expanding balancing and energy storage market.
The proposed IS Roșiori – Stage One facility would be located in Valea Vinului and connected to the national transmission network through the Roșiori substation. The establishment authorisation for the project is expected to remain valid until the end of November 2027.
While the project’s final energy capacity has not yet been disclosed, the planned configuration is expected to provide approximately two hours of storage. Nova Power & Gas is also developing a solar project at the same location, potentially allowing for closer integration between renewable electricity generation and flexible battery capacity.
E-Infra has already established a significant presence in Romania’s utility-scale storage sector. In December 2025, Nova Power & Gas commissioned a 200 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage facility in Florești, Cluj county. The project includes 45 battery containers, 30 transformer points and a dedicated 110/33 kV substation, and is designed to participate in balancing and other system-services markets.
Romania’s battery storage capacity has continued to grow at a rapid pace. At the beginning of August, connected battery capacity reached 989 MW and 1,975 MWh, compared with approximately 1,100 MWh recorded at the end of April.
The rapid expansion is gradually changing the structure of Romania’s electricity market. Battery systems are moving beyond their traditional role as niche balancing assets and are increasingly becoming key infrastructure for absorbing excess renewable generation during midday hours and delivering electricity during higher-value evening periods.
