RES wins asset-management role at Romania’s 392 MW Peștera II wind farm

Renewable-energy company RES has secured a technical and commercial asset-management contract for the 392 MW Peștera II wind project in Romania. Danish infrastructure investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) is developing the project, with electricity production scheduled to begin in 2028.

Peștera II is located near Constanța in Romania’s Dobrogea region. It will use 56 Nordex N163/6.X turbines, each with a capacity of around 7 MW and mounted on 138-metre steel towers. Once completed, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to match the annual consumption of more than 500,000 Romanian households.

The project has already secured significant parts of its commercial and financing structure. In December 2024, it received a 15-year contract for difference covering 245 MW, providing greater revenue visibility for a large share of its future output. CIP reached financial close during the summer, enabling construction activities to progress.

Asset management during construction and operation

Under the agreement, RES will support Peștera II during construction and preparations for long-term operation. Its remit includes technical and commercial oversight to improve operational readiness and control costs over the project’s lifecycle. The mandate reflects the expanding role of asset management for large renewable projects beyond the construction phase.

For investors, the shift from development to operation involves managing performance, warranties, grid obligations, commercial contracts and long-term operating costs. Peștera II’s scale and CfD-backed revenue structure make these disciplines increasingly important as the project advances towards its planned 2028 commissioning.
