The independent operator of the Greece–Bulgaria gas interconnector (ICGB) has joined forces with neighboring transmission system operators to create two new capacity routes designed to enhance gas transport to Ukraine.
The new Routes 2 and 3 will channel natural gas from Greece’s Alexandroupoli LNG terminal and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) through the IGB interconnector, continuing along the Trans-Balkan pipeline across Romania and Moldova before reaching Ukraine. Operations are scheduled for December 2025 to April 2026, mirroring the period of the first route launched earlier this year.
Each participating operator has submitted the bundled capacity proposals to its national energy regulator for approval. The expansion builds on the success of Route 1, which has already improved regional gas flexibility and cross-border energy flows in southeastern Europe.
By coordinating through the Regional Booking Platform (RBP), the partners aim to strengthen regional integration, offer more competitive capacity options, and enhance security of supply across multiple markets. To encourage participation, ICGB has reduced its transmission fees by 46 percent.
