Greek oil refiner Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) said that the Governments of Greece and North Macedonia are working intensely on the reopening of an oil pipeline between the two countries, which would link Macedonia’s ELPE-owned OKTA refinery to Greece. ELPE estimates that the pipeline would be reopened in the first quarter of 2022.
The oil pipeline stopped operating in 2013 after ELPE deemed its OKTA refining activities were no longer feasible. The 213 kilometers long pipeline has a capacity of 350,000 tons. Until 2013, the pipeline was used to transfer crude oil from ELPE’s Thessaloniki refinery to the OKTA refinery in Skopje.
