North Macedonia’s energy snapshot: July 2024 consumption and production trends

In July 2024, North Macedonia’s total electricity consumption reached 446,827 MWh, with natural gas consumption at 29.7 million cubic meters, coal consumption at 290,582 tons, and petroleum products at 103,770 tons. According to the State Statistical Office, domestic production covered 100% of electricity consumption, while 99.8% of coal consumption was dedicated to electricity generation.

The total net electricity production in July 2024 was 461,287 MWh, marking a 4.4% increase compared to the same month in the previous year. Breakdown of electricity production included:

  • Thermal power plants: 130,539 MWh (28.3%), a decrease of 14.8% from July 2023.
  • Hydropower plants: 142,449 MWh (30.9%), an increase of 6.2%.
  • CHPPs (Combined heat and power plants): 138,347 MWh (30%), an increase of 4%.
  • Bogdanci wind farm: 13,809 MWh (3%).
  • Biogas power plants: 5,590 MWh.
  • Solar power plants: 30,552 MWh, contributing to 6.6% of total electricity production.

Overall, the data reflects a steady reliance on domestic energy sources while showing growth in renewable energy contributions.
