Montenegro: Negiations A2A & Gov over Power utility EPCG and financing of new TPP Pljevlja

The negotiating teams of the Government and A2A, an Italian partner in Electric Power Industry of Montenegro (EPCG) will be resumed shortly announce from Montenegro Government and EPCG.

General Director of A2A Luka Valerio Camerano did not rule out the possibility that once again postpone a final agreement with Montenegro on cooperation in EPCG, where they have almost 42 percent of the shares.

The state of Montenegro has 57 percent of shares. It is anticipated that negotiations on a possible continuation of cooperation be completed by July, and previously it was planned by March 31st.

“Contacts with Montenegro have been intensified after a meeting with state leaders at EXPO (in Milan). It is important to find a good agreement and, if necessary to extend the deadline, we will do it, but we hope that there will not be a need for that”, Camerano said, transmits Reuters Italy.

They have not managed to agree on the financing of the thermal power plant in Pljevlja. One of the options is that the Government has 51 percent and EPCG, namely Government and A2A – 49 percent of the stake in the company established for the project. This would mean that Montenegro contributes about 80 percent in the project worth about 338 MEUR.

Among A2A requirements is the guarantee on the profitability of invested capital, autonomy in management and safety when it comes to the regulatory framework (the price), as well as to find a third partner to finance thermal unit.
