Montenegro’s Environmental Protection Agency has approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Kapino Polje B1 solar power plant. The project is developed by state-owned utility EPCG. The approval covers the environmental study submitted for the facility.
The planned plant will have an installed capacity of 11.43 MW. It is set to be located in the Nikšić area on a site designated for solar energy development. The Agency stated that the environmental study complies with national regulations.
The Agency also confirmed that the documentation includes mitigation measures intended to manage potential impacts during both construction and operational phases. This approval followed a request for a full environmental impact assessment before granting consent. Earlier, the Government issued urban and technical conditions for the B1 project.
Kapino Polje B1 within wider Kapino Polje solar plans
Kapino Polje B1 forms part of a broader Kapino Polje solar complex. The complex also includes planned projects B2, L1, and L2. Together, the developments are described as part of EPCG’s strategy to increase renewable generation capacity in Montenegro.
The total project value for the wider Kapino Polje developments is estimated at approximately €35.1 million. Project documentation places the B1 facility within this investment framework. The EIA approval therefore relates specifically to the B1 segment of the overall complex.
Planned output and equipment for Kapino Polje B1
According to project documentation, the solar plant is expected to produce around 15.79 GWh of electricity annually in its first year of operation. The installation is planned to cover approximately 160,000 square meters. It will include 19,704 photovoltaic panels.
The figures are presented as part of Montenegro’s expanding solar energy portfolio through EPCG’s Kapino Polje programme. The approved EIA relates to construction and operation impacts associated with these planned parameters.
