Petrol sales in the country dropped by about one-third and diesel sales fell by almost 25 % in late March, after the stay-at-home order was issued by the Government to contain the spread of coronavirus, according to data provided by the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MASZ).
The data show that fuel sales in January-February were up about 5 % compared to the same period a year earlier. The first-quarter petrol sales increased by 3.4 % year-on-year to 339 million liters, while diesel sales dropped slightly by 0.6 % to 551 million liters.
