Greece, HenEX will expand to the country’s natural gas market

The president of the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) Thanasis Dagoumas said that the Greek Energy Exchange (HenEX) will expand to the country’s natural gas market by launching of a gas trading platform in January 2022.

Dagoumas said that RAE has already approved the platform’s rules, adding that all the necessary regulatory decisions will be made soon. The new platform should offer both day-ahead and intraday products covering three-day periods, as well as the balancing market.

Farther steps include the establishment of a platform for gas producers, offering greater security through hedging options.

Earlier this month, Greek electricity producers said that the main culprit for high wholesale electricity prices in Greece this autumn is the absence of the local gas spot market.
