Danish renewable energy developer Eurowind Energy has commissioned the Tenevo solar power plant in Bulgaria. The project is described as one of the largest assets in the company’s international portfolio. It also adds to hybrid renewable energy infrastructure in Southeastern Europe.
The facility is now operational with an installed capacity of 242 MW. It is directly integrated with a large-scale battery energy storage system. The storage arrangement is intended to enhance grid flexibility and support renewable balancing requirements.
Project partners and EPC scope
The Tenevo development was carried out in cooperation with Austria-based Renalfa IPP. Solarpro Holding served as the EPC contractor for the project. Its responsibilities covered engineering, procurement, and construction works across the entire development.
Two-phase battery storage rollout
The battery storage system is being implemented in two phases. The first phase has a capacity of 65 MW / 260 MWh and is already operational. The second phase remains under construction.
When fully completed, the total storage capacity is expected to reach 311 MW / 772.5 MWh. This would place the installation among the largest battery-backed renewable projects in the region. The phased approach supports a gradual scaling of the hybrid configuration.
Commissioning timeline and regional context
The first stage of the project was commissioned in August of last year. This marked the initial step in bringing the hybrid system online. Subsequent work continues on the second phase of the battery storage.
The Tenevo project aligns with a broader regional trend of pairing solar generation with advanced storage technologies. Developers are increasingly focused on improving grid stability and increasing integration of renewable electricity into national power systems.
