During the week of July 21, electricity demand decreased in most major European electricity markets compared to the previous week. The most significant declines were observed in the Spanish and Belgian markets, with drops of 7.3% and 6.7%, respectively. The smallest reductions were recorded in Portugal and Italy, where demand fell by 1.6% and 1.7%. In Great Britain and France, demand declined by 2.4% and 3.4%, respectively. The Belgian and Portuguese markets continued to see lower demand for the third week in a row. Meanwhile, Spain, Italy, France, and Great Britain reversed the upward trend seen in the previous week and registered decreases. Germany was the only market to record an increase, with demand rising by 0.4% after two weeks of decline.
One of the main factors contributing to reduced demand was a drop in average temperatures across most markets. Temperature decreases ranged from 0.3°C in Italy to 2.0°C in Spain. Additionally, Belgium’s National Day on July 21 contributed to the reduced demand in that country.
Looking ahead to the week of July 28, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that electricity demand will increase in Belgium, Spain, France, and Portugal. On the other hand, demand is expected to decline in Italy, Germany, and Great Britain, AleaSoft reports.
