Croatia’s Krk LNG Terminal Achieves 12 Billion Cubic Meters in Gas Deliveries

The Krk LNG terminal, located on the Croatian island of Krk, has marked a significant operational achievement by surpassing a total of 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas deliveries into the national transmission system. This milestone comes shortly after the terminal celebrated its fifth anniversary of commercial operations, underscoring its increasing importance in the regional energy landscape.

Since its inception, the terminal situated in Omišalj has received approximately 19.83 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) transported by sea. Over this operational period, it has successfully facilitated the unloading of 140 LNG carriers, which illustrates its growing role in enhancing the regional energy supply.

In addition to pipeline deliveries, the Krk terminal has expanded its operational capabilities to include road-based gas distribution, with a total of 588 tanker trucks loaded to date. This development signifies a broader logistical capacity that extends beyond mere connections to the domestic gas network.

The operator, LNG Hrvatska, attributes these achievements to years of stable operation, robust technical reliability, and a commitment to ensuring a secure gas supply. The Krk LNG terminal is increasingly recognized as one of Croatia’s pivotal energy assets, particularly as Europe seeks to diversify energy sources and bolster supply resilience against external shocks.

The ongoing operations at the Krk LNG terminal are crucial for enhancing regional energy security and facilitating a transition towards a more flexible and diversified gas infrastructure. As Europe continues to navigate complex energy challenges, the role of such facilities will be vital in shaping future energy strategies.
