Croatia: Okoli underground gas storage at 34% capacity as of February 2025

The operator of Croatia’s Okoli underground gas storage facility has confirmed data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) regarding the relatively low occupancy level of the facility. As of 1 February, the Okoli storage was filled to just under 36% of its total capacity, with the working volume currently at 34% of its contracted capacity, as confirmed on 4 February 2025. This is equivalent to 1,645,099,768 kWh of natural gas.

At the start of February, GIE recorded that gas reserves in Croatia covered just 6% of the country’s annual consumption. In comparison, Portugal had 7%, and Belgium had the lowest at only 2%. France had the lowest storage level in the EU at 35.5%.

PSP Okoli explained that the gas supply sources, injection dynamics, and storage levels are determined by the users, or leaseholders, of the storage capacity. They emphasized that while they cannot provide details on the quantity of gas in storage, they can confirm the data recorded by GIE.
