Croatia begins environmental review for 99 MW Boksic solar power plant with battery storage

Croatia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition has initiated the process to determine if a full environmental impact study is necessary for the proposed 99 MW Boksic solar power plant, which will include an integrated battery energy storage system (BESS).

Once operational, the solar facility is expected to produce nearly 120 GWh of electricity annually. The project will cover approximately 123.8 hectares, with solar panels installed on about 46 hectares. It will connect to the national grid with a planned capacity of 89 MW, routed through a new 110/33 kV transformer station before linking to the existing 110 kV Nasice–Slatina transmission line. The battery system will have a discharge capacity of 38 MW and a storage capacity of up to 70.8 MWh, designed to operate for around twenty years.

An environmental assessment is required because the investor, the local company Funicula, plans to develop the site as a standalone solar power plant. The selected location is near the village of Boksic in the Djurdjenovac municipality, Osijek-Baranja County.
