The Bulgarian state-owned gas supplier, Bulgargaz, has submitted a proposal for the wholesale natural gas price for June 2026, suggesting a rate of approximately €35.62/MWh. This figure represents a slight decrease of about 1% from the previously approved price for May, which stood at around €35.98/MWh. The recent adjustments indicate a shift in market dynamics, as the May price had seen an increase of 4.99% compared to April.
The proposed price is currently pending approval from the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR), which is expected to finalize the rate on June 1. This decision will come after Bulgargaz submits an updated proposal that takes into account prevailing market conditions and the outcomes of a public consultation conducted at the end of May.
This development is significant within the context of Bulgaria’s energy landscape, particularly as it reflects ongoing adjustments in pricing strategies amid fluctuating market conditions. The potential decline in gas prices could influence consumer costs and overall energy expenditure in the region.
Bulgargaz’s pricing strategy will be closely monitored by stakeholders, including utilities and regulators, as it may set precedents for future pricing mechanisms in Bulgaria’s natural gas sector. The outcome of KEVR’s review will be pivotal in determining how these changes affect both supply contracts and consumer tariffs moving forward.
