Bosnia and Herzegovina Secures €22 Million for Vlašić Wind Farm Development

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has made significant strides in renewable energy development by approving two grant agreements with the German development bank KfW. These grants, totaling nearly €22 million, will support the construction and operational phases of the 50 MW Vlašić wind farm project located near Travnik.

Under the guidance of the Federal Ministry of Finance, this funding allocation is primarily directed towards essential preparatory works, construction activities, and technical assistance for the wind farm. Approximately €19.93 million will be earmarked for these initial stages, which also includes provisions to mitigate costs arising from exchange-rate fluctuations.

In addition to the construction funding, an extra grant of up to €2 million has been allocated for post-construction efforts. This financial support will facilitate environmental monitoring and operational optimization at the wind farm. A notable component of this initiative includes a two-year study focused on bird and bat populations in the vicinity, which underscores a commitment to ecological considerations in energy projects.

The second grant also aims to enhance technical compliance verification for equipment installed at the wind farm. This will involve measures designed to boost operational efficiency, enable predictive maintenance, and improve production management through better utilization of project data.

This initiative reflects a broader trend in Southeast Europe toward increasing investments in renewable energy sources, aligning with regional goals for sustainability and energy diversification. The Vlašić wind farm is positioned to play a crucial role in meeting energy demands while contributing to environmental stewardship in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
