Germany has suspended four planned infrastructure projects worth a total of 105m euros in the Republic as a form of sanctions against the RS leadership, local media reported.
The suspension includes the project of revitalization of the hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Trebinje, as well as the projects of the wind power plant Hrgud and the wastewater treatment plant Gradiška, the BHRT news agency reported on Friday.
The suspension will remain in force until the Republika Srpska Assembly withdraws its decisions calling for the transfer of competencies from the state to the entity level and until the blockade of BiH state institutions is lifted.
In December 2021, the Republika Srpska Assembly voted to transfer control of the armed and security forces, the judiciary and the indirect taxation system from the state to the entity level, which was assessed as a step towards the secession of RS from Bosnia.
Earlier this month, the UK government imposed sanctions against Milorad Dodik, a Serb member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s collective presidency, and Zeljka Cvijanovic, RS president, for using their positions to support Republika Srpska secession.
In January, the US State Department imposed sanctions on Dodik for corrupt activities and attempts to dismantle the Dayton Peace Agreement, which “endangers the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region.”
