Average Electricity Prices Decline on OPCOM Day-Ahead Market in December 2025

In December 2025, the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM reported an average price of electricity on the day-ahead market at €117.64/MWh. This figure marks a significant 16.62% decrease from December 2024 and a 3.16% decline compared to November, when the average baseload price was recorded at €121.48/MWh.

The total traded volume for the month reached 1.47 million MWh, which represents a decrease of 10.99% year-on-year; however, it is notable that this volume is 14.88% higher than the previous month’s trading activity. The average trading volume throughout December was approximately 1,972.6 MWh/h. The total transaction value on the day-ahead market amounted to €175.3 million, reflecting a substantial 30.51% decline from December 2024’s total of €252.2 million, although it shows a modest recovery of 9.37% compared to November’s €160.3 million.

The share of the day-ahead market in terms of forecasted net consumption for December 2025 stood at 32.28%, indicating its relevance in the overall energy consumption landscape.

<pOn the intraday market, trading activity totaled 171,298.8 MWh, which is a slight reduction of 1.84% year-on-year and down by 9.98% from November levels. The average intraday price settled at €122.83/MWh, reflecting a significant drop of 19.31% compared to December 2024 and a decrease of 2.25% from November.

Bilateral contracts for delivery in December reached a total of 1.156 million MWh, with an average price of €105.15/MWh. This competitive pricing underscores ongoing dynamics within Romania’s electricity market.

The observed trends indicate a consistent downward trajectory in prices across OPCOM markets amid moderate trading volumes, suggesting that market conditions may be stabilizing with sufficient supply available during this period.
