In a significant advancement for renewable energy, the Albanian government has approved the development of a 600 MW wind farm in the northern region of Tropoje. This initiative, spearheaded by CWP Europe, represents one of the largest wind investments ever undertaken in Albania, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s energy landscape.
With an ambitious timeline set for construction and commissioning to be completed within approximately twelve months, the Tropoje wind farm is positioned to become one of the fastest large-scale wind developments in southeastern Europe. This swift execution underscores Albania’s commitment to enhancing its renewable energy capacity.
The Tropoje project is part of a broader €1.1 billion investment strategy aimed at establishing substantial clean energy infrastructure throughout the Western Balkans. Alongside this wind farm, CWP Europe has plans for a 400 MW solar power plant with integrated battery energy storage in Montenegro, known as the Montecevo project.
These developments reflect a growing trend towards utility-scale renewable projects in southeastern Europe. Governments and private investors are increasingly focused on expanding clean generation capabilities, which is essential for improving regional energy security and diversifying energy sources across the Balkans.
