The Albanian Power Exchange (ALPEX) recorded strong activity in June 2026, with total electricity traded in the day-ahead market reaching 197.2 GWh. This represented a 2.8% decline compared with the previous month, but a significant 45.4% increase year on year, highlighting the continued growth of organized electricity trading in the Albania-Kosovo market area.
Of the total traded volume, 108.7 GWh was allocated to the Kosovo bidding zone, while 136.1 GWh was traded in the Albania bidding zone. Both zones recorded an average market clearing price of €91.55/MWh, reflecting the increasing integration of regional electricity trading and the role of market-based price formation in Southeast Europe.
The total transaction value on ALPEX reached approximately €32.5 million in June 2026, representing a 10% increase compared with the same period last year. The rise in market value demonstrates stronger participation, higher traded volumes compared with 2025, and the growing importance of transparent day-ahead electricity markets in the region.
ALPEX was established in October 2020 by Albania’s transmission system operator OST and Kosovo’s transmission operator KOSTT with the aim of creating a regional electricity trading platform. The exchange conducted its first Albanian day-ahead auction in April 2023, marking an important step toward deeper market integration and improved price transparency.
Today, ALPEX includes 36 registered market participants across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones. As renewable generation expands and cross-border electricity flows become increasingly important, the exchange is expected to play a growing role in supporting regional market development, investment signals, and more efficient electricity trading across Southeast Europe.
