Romania’s utility-scale solar market has reached a new milestone with the completion of the 169 MW photovoltaic project at Iepurești in Giurgiu County. Developed by Nofar Energy, the plant is in its final stages before full commercial operation. It is currently reported as the largest operational solar power facility in Romania.
Technical steps before commercial electricity sales
Commercial electricity sales are set to begin only after a sequence of technical verifications. The process includes certification tests carried out by the network operator. After those tests, a connection certificate must be issued, followed by an operating license from the national energy regulator.
Nofar Energy portfolio and project performance estimates
The Iepurești project is described as a major asset within Nofar Energy’s expanding Romanian portfolio. The company’s portfolio includes approximately 850 MW of solar capacity and 2.3 GWh of planned energy storage. Nofar Energy estimates first-year revenue of around EUR 19 million, alongside projected EBITDA of approximately EUR 16 million.
Battery storage integration and planned capacity expansion
Nofar Energy has confirmed ongoing work to integrate a battery energy storage system at the site. The company said the addition is expected to support renewable energy utilization, improve grid flexibility, and increase overall installation efficiency. Longer term, it plans to expand the plant’s capacity from 169 MW to 400 MW.
Nofar Energy said the Iepurești project is nearing full commercial operation while additional expansion plans are under way.
