Dravske Elektrarne Maribor (DEM) has successfully concluded a significant modernization initiative across three hydropower facilities in Slovenia, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring long-term reliability. The plants located in Dravograd, Vuzenica, and Mariborski otok underwent a comprehensive upgrade that spanned three years.
The modernization involved the overhaul of key secondary systems, incorporating advanced process equipment and digital technologies. This strategic move is expected to extend the operational lifespan of these plants by at least 20 years, thereby reinforcing Slovenia’s renewable energy capacity.
A pivotal aspect of this project was the implementation of modern data management systems, which facilitate real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance capabilities. These enhancements not only improve operational performance but also bolster cybersecurity measures, ensuring that the primary equipment can function effectively throughout its later operational stages.
Among the notable advancements is the introduction of a newly developed digital turbine control system, crafted by DEM’s engineering team. This innovation marks a significant step towards achieving greater technological independence and optimizing the performance of hydropower operations.
This modernization initiative represents a critical milestone in DEM’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, ultimately enhancing both operational resilience and sustainability within Slovenia’s hydropower sector.
