Serbia: Completion of gas interconnection with Bulgaria by 2023

The construction of 108 kilometers long Serbian section of the interconnector from Dimitrovgrad to Nis will cost 85.5 million euros. Bulgarian section, from the border to Sofia, is 62 kilometers long and it will cost around 77 million euros.

During her visit to Vlasotince in southern Serbia, Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said that the gas interconnection with Bulgaria will be completed by the beginning of 2023, thus enabling Serbia to receive natural gas from new sources.

Minister Mihajlovic reminded that, a week ago, a tender for the selection of a supervisory body for the gas interconnection project was launched, adding that it is expected that a tender for the project’s contractor should be launched next week. The agreement with the contractor should be signed in two to three months, which should enable for the construction works to start in the summer.

The works should last for about year and a half, which means that the interconnection will be operational in the beginning of 2023, enabling Serbia to receive natural gas from sources other than Russia.

She added that the Ministry is also working on projects for gas interconnections with Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, as Serbia wants to become an important gas transit country.
