Romania’s Ogrezeni Hybrid Solar-Storage Project Secures €460 Million Financing

A significant advancement in renewable energy is underway in southern Romania, where the Ogrezeni hybrid facility is set to become a key player in the region’s energy landscape. Enery has successfully secured a financing agreement amounting to €460 million to support the construction of this innovative project, which will integrate large-scale solar generation with advanced battery storage capabilities.

The Ogrezeni facility is expected to deliver a substantial 761 MW of solar capacity, complemented by an energy storage system that exceeds 1 GWh. This combination aims to enhance network stability and flexibility, positioning the site among the most notable hybrid renewable assets in Central and Eastern Europe.

The financing was orchestrated through a consortium of seven banks: UniCredit, Intesa Sanpaolo Group, ING Bank NV, Banca Transilvania, National Bank of Greece in Cyprus, Exim Banca Romaneasca, and Alpha Bank. The financial package includes long-term loan tranches, a revolving credit facility, VAT-related funding, and additional instruments to support the project’s development. Notably, an accordion option allows for an expansion of the battery component by up to €79 million in the future.

This transaction also marks the inaugural investment under Enery’s newly established Sustainable Financing Framework. The framework aims to promote environmentally aligned infrastructure projects across Central and Eastern Europe. Enery anticipates that this initiative will facilitate further renewable projects under its auspices.

Enery’s leadership has expressed that finalizing this financing reflects robust lender confidence in their ability to manage technically complex and large-scale energy projects. They view this achievement as a strategic milestone that bolsters their long-term ambitions within the region while contributing significantly to the transition towards low-carbon energy systems.

The Ogrezeni project is being developed in collaboration with the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund and is located in Giurgiu County. Construction activities are slated to commence in the first quarter of 2026 following the project’s formal launch.
