Romania: Vulcangas opens first LNG and BioLNG refueling station in Pecica

Vulcangas Romania, a subsidiary of the Italian Vulcan Group, has opened Romania’s first refueling station for liquefied natural gas (LNG), BioLNG, compressed natural gas (CNG) and BioCNG in Pecica, Arad County. The facility is designed to offer cleaner fuel options for heavy-duty transport, marking an important step in Romania’s efforts to reduce emissions in the transportation sector.

The Pecica station is just the beginning of a larger network of LNG and BioLNG stations planned across Romania. Future stations are set to open in Bucharest, in partnership with OMV Petrom, and in Constanta, near the Black Sea port. According to Costantino Amadei, CEO of Vulcangas Romania, the company sees great potential in Romania, which serves as a key logistics hub in Europe. The network of refueling stations is expected to support the transition to cleaner fuels for transport while positioning Romania as an important hub for biomethane production in Southeastern Europe. Romania’s agricultural resources are well-suited to support both gaseous and liquid biomethane production.

This investment is also driven by upcoming EU regulations expected to come into effect by 2025, which will mandate emission monitoring and trading in the transport sector. In addition to expanding the refueling infrastructure, Vulcangas Romania is collaborating with the Federation of Oil and Gas Employers in Romania (FPPG) to help foster legislative support for the development of biogas production facilities.
