Romania: Rezolv Energy signs seven-year virtual power purchase agreement with A2A for wind project

Rezolv Energy, an independent electricity producer backed by Actis in Central and Southeastern Europe, has secured a seven-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Italian utility A2A for its 461 MW Vifor wind project in Romania.

Under this agreement, A2A will purchase 150 GWh of electricity annually from the wind farm, which will be developed in two phases in Buzau County. The first phase will have a capacity of 192 MW, expanding to 461 MW in the second phase. Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months, with the Vifor wind farm slated to commence operations before the end of 2025.

Rezolv Energy’s CEO, Alastair Hammond, noted that while VPPAs are still a relatively new concept in Southeastern Europe, they are becoming crucial for facilitating the energy transition. This agreement not only supports decarbonization goals but also aids Romania in achieving its climate targets.

This marks Rezolv’s sixth VPPA since June, bringing its total secured capacity to 460 GWh annually—the largest PPA capacity achieved by any developer in the region. Earlier this month, Rezolv also signed a VPPA for a solar project in Bulgaria with Ardagh Glass Packaging Europe and has established agreements with three European subsidiaries of Deutsche Telekom for the first phase of the Vifor wind project.
