Investment platform MetaWealth has secured EUR 19 million in financing for a 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage project in Romania, marking the first financed asset in a broader portfolio of storage projects currently under development.
Construction of the Dumbrava battery energy storage system in Neamt County is already under way, with Parapet Group serving as the EPC contractor. Commercial operations are expected to begin in April 2027, while the project has already received grid-connection approval and its main equipment packages are ready for delivery.
CEC Bank is providing approximately EUR 10 million through a seven-year senior debt facility. The remaining EUR 9 million will be financed through sponsor and investor equity, including EUR 5.5 million from the Topolinski family and EUR 3.5 million from institutional and private investors participating through MetaWealth Luxembourg and its authorised distributors.
BRD Asset Management, part of Societe Generale, has also committed EUR 500,000 to the project.
MetaWealth said the Dumbrava project represents the first step in a much larger Romanian battery storage strategy. The company’s wider portfolio could eventually reach around 850 MWh, with total investment across identified and developing projects estimated at approximately EUR 160 million.
The expansion comes as Romania continues to experience rapid growth in solar power. Around 2.2 GW of solar capacity was installed in 2025, while the country’s total solar capacity exceeded 8.5 GW in August 2026, according to figures cited in the document.
MetaWealth plans to use the Dumbrava financing model as a template for future battery storage developments, combining sponsor capital, external investors, domestic bank financing and development partners to support the expansion of its Romanian energy storage portfolio.
