Romania’s renewable energy landscape continues to evolve as a new solar power plant has been successfully completed, contributing an additional 55 MW of generation capacity to the national grid. Situated near Simleu, this facility spans approximately 54 hectares, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance its renewable energy portfolio.
The project was executed by Parapet Renewable, which opted for innovative construction techniques by employing screwed steel pile foundations. This approach not only minimized material consumption but also ensured structural integrity. The installation includes nearly 79,000 solar panels mounted on over 2,800 fixed structures. The plant is designed for efficient grid integration, incorporating 140 three-phase inverters, each rated at 350 kW, along with eight transformer stations. The infrastructure supports both direct current (DC) systems connecting the panels to inverters and alternating current (AC) systems linking inverters to transformers, facilitating seamless connections to Romania’s medium- and high-voltage networks.
Parapet Renewable has established a robust footprint in the European renewable sector, having developed around 2 GW of clean energy across 15 countries. Their portfolio includes approximately 350 projects, encompassing solar, wind, and hybrid technologies from initial engineering phases through to construction and ongoing maintenance.
In addition to this development, further solar initiatives are underway in the region. Shikun & Binui Energy has recently secured a €49 million loan from Raiffeisen Bank International aimed at constructing a separate 101 MW solar facility in Simleul Silvaniei. This financing arrangement allows for flexibility in electricity sales through Romania’s wholesale market or via direct power purchase agreements, enabling targeted sales to end consumers. The company’s Romanian portfolio now boasts a total of 841 MW of solar capacity alongside 554 MW of wind capacity, underscoring Romania’s strategic importance within Shikun & Binui Energy’s broader regional renewable strategy.
