The Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the Djerdap 3 pump-storage hydropower plant is nearing completion and is expected to be signed once harmonization is finalized, according to Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic. This announcement followed her meeting with Romanian Energy Minister Ivan Bogdan, during which they discussed expanding joint energy capacities to serve the interests of both nations.
The planned Djerdap 3 facility is expected to strengthen power network stability, support the integration of renewable energy sources into the regional electricity system, and offer seasonal electricity storage solutions beneficial to both countries.
The ministers also discussed the Serbia-Romania gas interconnection project, which is scheduled for completion in the next two and a half years. A technical agreement has already been signed between Srbijagas and Romanian company Transgaz, establishing a connection to the BRHA pipeline and other gas infrastructure in Romania.
Building on a long history of neighborly cooperation, shared operational experience, and strategic infrastructure partnerships, Serbia and Romania are moving forward with projects aimed at enhancing their joint energy security.
