Bulgarian natural gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz said that that a rupture of gas pipeline in the morning hours of 1 November has caused disruption of gas supply to Romania, as well as Serbia and Hungary via recently commissioned TurkStream extension pipeline.
The operator said that the incident occurred near the Vetrino village at the section of the old pipeline used for transporting gas to Romania. The company added that there were no casualties and no material damage to third parties.
The supply of gas to Romania was partially restored on 1 November, while Bulgartransgaz believes that the supply to Serbia and Hungary will be restored in the night between 2 and 3 November.
Although Serbia has sufficient gas in Banatski Dvor underground storage, its daily evacuation capacity is 5 million cubic meters, while the country consumes about 10 million cubic meters during the winter season. Therefore, Serbia was forced to import emergency quantities of gas from Hungary. Ukraine also offered to provide additional volumes via Hungary.
