Eurowind Energy Romania has initiated the testing phase for its Pecineaga wind project, a significant milestone that brings the facility closer to its operational debut. This development follows the successful commissioning of key infrastructure, including the transformer substation and the wind turbines, which are critical for achieving final technical validation.
During this testing phase, project teams will focus on ensuring that all essential systems function correctly and safely. The emphasis will be on assessing equipment reliability, verifying system integration, and confirming readiness for commissioning and subsequent operational phases.
The Pecineaga project boasts an installed capacity of 48 MW, representing an investment of approximately 90 million euros. This makes it a pivotal component of Eurowind Energy’s portfolio in Romania and indicates that it is nearing the capacity to supply electricity to the national grid.
This wind farm features eight Siemens Gamesa SG 6.6-170 turbines, recognized as the largest turbine model currently in operation in Romania. Each turbine is rated at 6.6 MW and includes a 170-meter rotor designed to optimize efficiency even under low wind conditions.
The next steps involve commissioning by the manufacturer, followed by comprehensive technical inspections before the facility is officially transferred. Performance testing will then be conducted in collaboration with Romania’s transmission system operator.
Upon reaching full operational capacity, the wind farm is projected to generate around 176 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 48,000 households. This contribution will enhance Romania’s renewable energy output and bolster the share of clean energy within its national power mix.
