December 2025 witnessed a noteworthy surge in electricity trading on North Macedonia’s day-ahead market, with total volumes reaching 118,102.7 MWh. This figure represents a substantial 19.9% increase compared to 98,508 MWh recorded in December 2024. Furthermore, trading activity demonstrated an 8.2% month-on-month growth relative to November 2025, indicating a robust upward trend in market engagement.
The month also saw the average market-clearing price settle at €116.89/MWh, reflecting a decrease of 3.1% from the preceding month. The average daily traded volume during this period was calculated at 3,809.8 MWh, while the peak price for December reached €128.3/MWh, illustrating the dynamic pricing landscape of the market.
The establishment of the North Macedonian electricity exchange in May 2023 has played a pivotal role in fostering this growth, as it evolves into an essential platform for electricity transactions within the country. The steady increase in trading volumes and market activity underscores its importance in enhancing liquidity and operational efficiency in North Macedonia’s energy sector.
