North Macedonia day-ahead electricity trading rises in May 2026 on higher prices

In May 2026, the North Macedonia day-ahead electricity exchange reported total traded volume of 125,210.5 MWh. The figure represented a 45% increase versus May 2025, when 86,321 MWh were traded. It also marked a 14% rise compared with the previous month.

Market-clearing price and daily trading levels

The market operator MEMO said the average market-clearing price for May 2026 was 89.68 euros/MWh. This level was 2.1% higher on a month-on-month basis. The same monthly report cited relatively stable conditions alongside slightly tighter pricing as volumes increased.

Average daily trading volume in May reached approximately 4,039 MWh. The peak electricity price recorded during the month was 49.9 euros/MWh. The report indicated lower volatility in peak pricing compared with overall market averages.

Exchange development since launch

The North Macedonian electricity exchange was established in May 2023. May 2026 results showed continued year-on-year expansion in trading activity. The operator also described gradual maturation of the power market structure alongside the higher volumes and prices recorded during the month.
