A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by representatives of state-owned power utility EPCG and French energy company EDF, aiming to establish a framework for long-term collaboration in energy transition and low-carbon technologies.
The MoU outlines a commitment to work together on developing new hydropower plants to enhance Montenegro’s energy security while adhering to international standards for environmental protection and social responsibility. Milutin Djukanovic, Chairman of the EPCG Board of Directors, highlighted hydropower as a significant development potential for Montenegro, asserting that the energy sector can drive the country’s growth.
In addition to hydropower, the cooperation may extend to other agreed-upon areas, including the design of large-scale solar power plants linked to hydropower projects, the development of energy storage solutions such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), and green hydrogen initiatives. These efforts aim to improve network flexibility and integrate renewable energy sources effectively.
