IBEX reports significant increase in power trading volumes as prices decline in December 2025

In December 2025, the Bulgarian Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) witnessed a notable uptick in electricity trading, with a total of 2,611,971.3 MWh transacted on the day-ahead market. This figure marks a substantial 9.4% increase compared to November’s trading volumes. The average daily traded volume reached 84,257.1 MWh, although it is important to note that the total monthly volume was still 3% lower year-on-year.

The pricing landscape for electricity also showed signs of softening during this period. The average baseload price for December dropped to €117.25/MWh, reflecting a decrease of 3.5% from the previous month. Similarly, the average peak price fell by 4.6%, settling at €130.83/MWh. The market saw an increase in participation as well, with the number of registered participants on the day-ahead market rising to 147, an increase of two from November.

<pThe intraday continuous market also experienced enhanced trading activity, achieving a total volume of 617,690.3 MWh, which represents a month-on-month increase of 12.4%. However, the average weighted intraday price saw a slight decline, easing to €124.58/MWh, down by 0.7%.

This month marked a milestone for intraday trading on IBEX, as it recorded the highest monthly volume to date, surpassing the previous record set in October 2025 by approximately 5%. This trend underscores the ongoing expansion and maturation of short-term power trading activities within Bulgaria’s energy market.
