The Green Breeze Wind Farm in Galați County, Romania, has successfully commissioned its 220 kV transformer substation in Frumușița, marking a significant step toward its commercial launch. This development allows the facility to connect to Romania’s national electricity transmission system, paving the way for future electricity exports as it approaches full operational status.
Developed by Swedish renewable energy firm OX2 for Nala Renewables—a joint venture involving Trafigura and IFM Investors—the wind farm features an installed capacity of 99.2 MW, comprising 16 Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbines. The project is positioned as one of the notable new wind energy developments in the region.
Upon becoming fully operational, Green Breeze is projected to generate around 312 GWh of electricity annually, which would be sufficient to power approximately 51,000 households. Furthermore, the project is anticipated to contribute significantly to Romania’s energy transition by reducing CO₂ emissions by about 150,000 tons each year.
The construction phase commenced in late 2024 after Nala Renewables acquired the project from OX2 earlier that year. Under their agreement, OX2 has retained responsibility for construction and operational delivery while Nala Renewables oversees investment aspects. This transaction also includes a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with a multinational corporate offtaker, ensuring long-term revenue stability for the project.
Financing for the Green Breeze Wind Farm was secured through Erste Group and its Romanian subsidiary Banca Comercială Română, reflecting a robust interest from banks in utility-scale renewable assets within Central and Eastern Europe.
This project marks OX2’s first fully completed renewable energy initiative in Romania. The company is concurrently advancing a broader pipeline of projects totaling approximately 1,100 MW in capacity, indicating a sustained growth trajectory for wind energy in the country.
