European Energy, a Danish renewable energy firm, has divested a 50% interest in the Tsoukes Sarres wind project to the Danish pension fund Sampension. This project consists of a 27 MW onshore wind farm currently under development in Greece. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
This strategic move is part of European Energy’s broader initiative to release capital from mature projects, which will be redirected towards new renewable energy initiatives across Europe. By partially divesting from select assets, the company aims to boost its growth trajectory in wind, solar, and hybrid energy sectors.
Construction for the Tsoukes Sarres facility commenced in September 2024, with plans for commissioning in the first half of 2026. Upon completion, the facility will incorporate six wind turbines, which are expected to feed electricity directly into Greece’s national transmission system.
This transaction enhances the existing partnership between European Energy and Sampension, who have previously collaborated on various projects. Notably, they recently executed a similar arrangement involving a 50% stake in a 111 MW solar-plus-storage project in Latvia. European Energy is currently managing a global renewables pipeline estimated at around 65 GW, with its focus in Greece centered on expanding its onshore wind capacity alongside an increasing portfolio of solar projects.
