During the week of September 14, electricity demand increased in Belgium, Germany and Portugal, compared with the previous week. Belgium recorded the strongest growth, with demand rising 1.5% after two consecutive weeks of declines. Germany followed with a 1.4% increase, extending its growth streak to four consecutive weeks, while Portugal posted a 1.0% rise for the third week in a row.
By contrast, electricity demand declined in Italy, Spain, Great Britain and France. Italy recorded the steepest drop, at 7.3%, while demand in both Spain and Great Britain decreased by 4.0%. France saw a more moderate 1.0% decline. Italy, Spain and France each recorded lower demand for the second consecutive week.
Average temperatures also declined across Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany and France during the week. Italy experienced the largest decrease, with temperatures falling by 1.8°C, followed by Spain at 1.3°C and Portugal at 1.2°C. Germany and France recorded smaller declines of 0.4°C and 0.2°C, respectively. Meanwhile, average temperatures increased by 0.5°C in both Great Britain and Belgium.
For the week beginning September 21, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects electricity demand to increase in Portugal, while demand is forecast to decline in Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Great Britain and Spain. According to AleaSoft, the outlook points to continued divergence in electricity consumption trends across major European markets, AleaSoft reports.
