Croatia: Two small electricity suppliers to withdraw from Croatian market

Croatian electricity market operator HROTE announced that two electricity suppliers – i-energija and 220V will be withdrawing from the Croatian retail electricity market as of 1 December 2018.

Small electricity suppliers continue to withdraw from the Croatian market and sell their portfolios to larger companies in the business. Last month, Croatian subsidiary of German energy company RWE has successfully competed the acquisition of of electricity supply business of the largest Croatian telecommunications company Hrvatski Telekom (HT). The transaction was previously approved by Croatian Competition Agency (AZTN), which said that it will have an effect on the Croatian electricity supply market, as RWE’s market share would stand between 5 and 10 % upon the completion of the transaction, which will not have a negative effect on the competition.

In early June, HT announced its withdrawal from retail electricity market in Croatia. The statement from the company said that the transaction will have no influence on the manner and price of electricity supplied to customers of HT, nor will affect the price and provision of the contracted telecommunications services, which the company offered in a bundle. Hrvatski Telekom obtained an electricity supply license in 2013.
