Croatia: RWE to acquire local natural gas distributor

According to unofficial sources, Croatian subsidiary of German energy company RWE, RWE Energija, will acquire gas business of the local utilities company Komunalac in Koprivnica. The company submitted the best offer on the tender for the acquisition of 75 % stake in local companies Koprivnica Plin and Koprivnica Opskrba.

Other bidders on this tender included Prvo Plinarsko Drustvo (PPD), MET, local gas distributor Zagorski Metalac and Slovenian Petrol. RWE Energija will take over the supply of 12,000 households and over 1,000 business customers, including large companies such as Podravka, Carlsberg and Hartmann. However, RWE Energija did not make any official comments regarding this alleged acquisition.

According to unofficial information, the offered price was over 6.6 million euros and the negotiations related to final details will start soon. In principle, Komunalac will seek that the new strategic partner retains all 32 employees in both companies, while their long-term intention is to expand the operation to other parts of the country. They hope that with the new strategic partner the company will have competitive prices and will be able to expand to new markets.
