According to Deputy Prefect of Primorsko-Goranska County Vojko Braut, the construction of non-integrated solar power plant with installed capacity of 1 MW is planned, as a part of self-sustaining island Unije project.
Braut said that state-owned HEP has confirmed its interest in investing, it has already obtained a location permit and is awaiting energy permitl from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. This project should be followed by the INSULAE project, which is also being implemented on the island, representing a system for battery storage of electricity produced in the solar power plant.
This is all part of a larger, EU backed ISLANDER project, whose goal is to accelerate the decarbonization of several selected island’s energy systems and it will be implemented in two phases. The first phase is the implementation of pilot activities on the German island of Borkum where the technology will be introduced for the first time, and after that Croatia will take over by developing two battery storage projects, one on the island of Cres and the other for other Kvarner islands.
